a step back
I was really excited about the livescribe 3. I've owned pretty much every model of livescribe pen, and something which sync'd live to my smart phone and tablet was what I thought I was looking for.
So, on the good side, the sync versus my iphone works fine. Its a little annoying having to manually open the app when I want to use the pen, but that's probably more apple's problem than livescribes. The recognition works okay -- and there my handwriting is probably more at fault. The stylus cap that you can use on the phone and tablet is a nice touch. The feed option in the app is great, its just what I need -- I just wish it sync'd to other services (like Evernote)
The bad side is that the iOS app isn't very good at all. You have to manually sync to other services (like Evernote), which is a pretty big step back from the Livescribe Wifi. When you do sync it seems the only choice is PDF, which isn't as useful within Evernote as it's a two stage process to view the notes (I used to sync my notes manually using PNG and the LIvescribe Wifi also "did the right thing" here.
Also, the new retractable ink cartridge is cool because I don't have to carry a case, BUT it now makes an annoyingly loud clicking sound while I'm writing which is loud enough for others to ask what's making that clicking sound in meetings.
