Not what it promises
This is a book, and writing books is hard, so it is admirable that the author was able to write it. It is even a nice book, with sweet and gentle bits of life advice strewn throughout. There are tales of personal adversity and overcoming struggles and frankly it ought to all have been very inspiring. However, that is not the type of book I wanted to purchase.
I wanted to, as the title promises, track the past, order the present, and design the future. I wanted a definitive book on the bullet journal method--because I'm a beginner and there aren't very many resources for *how* to bullet journal online, mostly just lots and lots of banners and boarders and completed pages that each look different from the last--and so I bought this book. It's by the inventor of the bullet journal method. I was pretty jazzed.
It takes a little over 100 pages for the book to get to its own point--how to bullet journal--and the tips it gives are weak at best. I could have figured out that the index goes in the front, thank you. The multiple symbols system is something I've been using on my own for over a decade (since middle school). Honestly, by this point I was so frustrated (and falling asleep) that I had to put the book down. I just said 'to hell with it' and made up my own system, which is a little irritating since so much of the internet acts like they're all using the same miracle system...but in the end they're kind of not.
I hope they didn't all buy this book to make their journals--they seem to be having fun (and to quote a certain big name Netflix star, mine has "brought me joy", lots of it)--because it makes me sad to think of so many people wasting their money like this.
If you want a book about overcoming adversity and school troubles and ADHD and all those sorts of things--this book is going to make you happy. That's most of the contents of this book. It's a nice book. If you're looking for something to tell you how to make your own bullet journal, it's not worth the purchase price.
