The Marathon water heater is, in my opinion, a outstanding water heater, for those who need a reliable electric water heater. But I will no longer recommend that anyone purchase them because if there is a problem the companies support is unbelievably lacking. I have read reviews concerning parts that have failed. Of which there are very few. These are the same type of parts that all other water heaters have (except for the anti-siphon valve), and those will also fail on occasion. My specific issue is that this is the only unit in the industry, to my knowledge, that has a LIFETIME tank warranty. Sounds wonderful doesn't it. Until the tank leaks. Then you call everyone possible, from the place of purchase, to all departments (that would answer the phone) at the manufacturer, and that ALL give you the same answer... "Return the leaking water heater to the place of purchase. Then a replacement will be sent to them within 8 - 10 WEEKS!!!" And every person we spoke to, seemed to state this without understanding what they were saying. 8 - 10 WEEKS! Who wants to go 8-10 without hot water? The customer service was anything BUT. Suggestions were, "shower at a friends or relative house" or "go to a club or the YMCA".... for more than 2 months??? we were fortunate that it leak shortly after it was installed, and we removed it, returned it for credit and purchased another model. It only has a 12 year warranty, but a replacement will be quite readily available. This is another, in a series of problems, I have noticed in the corporate world, of not caring about the consumer after the purchase.
