FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! NOT CEYLON, BUT CASSIA CINNAMON
I bought this over two weeks ago and just opened it tonight when the last of my Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon out of Whole Foods finally got used up. As soon as I opened the bag of Anthony’s “so-called” Ceylon Cinnamon Powder, I immediately got the red flag when a strong whif of Cassia smelling cinnamon hit my nose. I went ahead and tried it in my cereal, and saw where the powder stayed afloat on the milk. I knew then this was not real Ceylon Cinnamon. The Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon I use blends near perfectly in liquid, and has a unique aroma and flavor distinct from Cassia (regular) cinnamon. I’ve switched to Ceylon Cinnamon nearly two or so years ago upon learning through research that Ceylon is supposed to be the “true “ cinnamon with health benefits cinnamon is toted to have, versus regular “cassia” cinnamon most commonly found on the market may actually not have those health benefits, and potentially adverse health risks dealing with the liver. I am very disappointed in Anthony’s deceptive labeling, and can’t get a refund through Amazon on this. I might take this direct to the company too. So sad, because prior to this I like and use the pound organic corn starch from this company I also bought off Amazon.
UPDATE (June 16, 2020)
January 28th, 2020, I had submitted a message through Anthony’s Goods website, explaining the situation I encountered with their product, and requested a refund or the deliverance of the actual product I wanted. I never received a reply or response.
Life had been busy, but I finally got around to sending another correspondence, this time an email to contact@anthonysgoods.com, on March 6th, 2020- explaining again my situation and the attempt to reach their company in January to resolve the matter. Still no reply.
I just recently sent another email Saturday, June 13th 2020 to contact@anthonysgoods.com. No reply yet. I’m never buying anything from Anthony’s Goods again. I finally exhausted the organic corn starch I had from them a few days ago, and just bought Rapunzel organic corn starch on Amazon today.
Update (6/19/20)
On June 16,2020 I finally received this within an email reply:
“We're sorry to inform you but the cinnamon that you received was Ceylon Cinnamon. Our products are organic certified and we have longstanding relationships with our farmers to provide the best quality products. We're sorry but unfortunately, we cannot take any returns at this time.”
And I replied today (6/19/20) with the following:
“Unfortunately, the product I had received was not Ceylon, but Cassia under the label Ceylon. I know the difference. I would highly encourage Anthony’s team to double-check their quality control measures, and make sure somewhere along the production line that your Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon aren’t being accidentally swapped. Or test what your suppliers are giving you to make sure it is Ceylon.
Since Anthony’s team has chosen not to remediate my experience with this last purchase, and it took practically half a year for the company to even give a response after several attempts to communicate, unfortunately you have lost me as a customer.”
I’m done with this company.
