Too many downsides: * The solar charging to too weak to even maintain a charge while sitting in a west facing window. * Hand crank no where near efficient enough to charge internal battery enough to charge a phone (I tried running down the internal battery and cranking and it was hopeless). * No way to disable the Required Weekly Test as other radios have. This means if you keep the weather alert feature on, you'll hear a loud siren and strobe light every Wednesday between 11 am and noon.
