I've had this mattress for over 2 years now and the memory foam has held up better than expected for this price. It has had a slight odor since I purchased it, but it never bothered me enough to try and fix it. Well I had some free time and I decided to remove the outer cover and wash it according to the label. BIG MISTAKE. Under the outer cover is an "inner cover" which is actually just woven fiber glass (as a fire inhibitor). This fiber glass breaks down over normal usage apparently and had filled the outer cover. So washing this cover just spread the fiber glass EVERYWHERE. I didn't notice at first since it is so fine, but after having trouble sleeping and breathing for a few days, I took a very bright flashlight at eye level and could see millions of little fibers throughout my room. Obviously on my sheets, but all over the clothes in my closet, on every surface imaginable. I spent hours vacuuming (with a HEPA vacuum), tried washing my sheets several times but ended up throwing them out as the fibers are impossible to remove once they've penetrated through cloth. I vacuumed the bed with the cover back on and vacuumed every surface in my room as well as all the clothes in my closet. Finally, it seemed like I had it under control. It's been about a month since I did this deep clean and I'm again having trouble breathing. Pulled out the flashlight to see the fibers have worked their way through the cover again and are again circulating my room. They have covered my quilt and are showing up on several surfaces. I can't afford a new mattress right now and am moving soon, so I'll have to try and find a mattress cover which can hopefully contain the terrible design choice of this mattress. Warning to all, do not remove the "washable" outer cover under any circumstances!
