Looks great, poor performance
Too bad the performance of the air purifier doesn't match its styling. We like the look of it but for our house it just doesn't perform well. We have neighbors that smoke A LOT of marijuana and unfortunately the smell is mainly coming in my sons room. This model (311) does very little to get rid of the smell. For comparison I also bought a Winnix 5500-2 and it completely removes the smell in his room and the hallway. I bought the Blueair 311 mainly for my room, and from the first use onward I kept smelling something odd coming from the purifier. It wasn't a strong smell, but if you leave the room for a period of time and then walk back in you can smell it. It was becoming annoying, so I swapped purifiers with my son and tried his Winnix for a week while he had the Blueair 311. By the end of the week, my son was ready for his Winnix. The blueair is really nice looking and slightly quieter in most modes. I like that the air sensor light goes off in night mode, (something the Winnix does not do).
Also I have to mention the sensor on the blueair is not very sensitive. I blew out a match and held the smoking end in front of the sensor and it seemed like a long time for the indicator to turn from blue to orange. On the Winnix the sensor picked it up within seconds.
The blueair is light, easy to move from one location to another, but as an air purifier it does not hold up to some of the more challenging and necessary tasks. If it can't do a good job of identifying, filtering and purifying smoke, then I'm less inclined to believe it can handle dust, pollen and other things. Unfortunately we're going to return this product and can't recommend it.
