Somewhere in the fine print description of this thing there must be a statement, "only for one usage" but I never found it until I had purchased it and found that on the box. If you can't practice and show your kids how to deploy it, let them deploy it, make comments, then have them try again a couple of times until they are confident, then such an item is useless. "When there's an emergency we'll figure it out" is NOT the way to approach such a serious matter. Shame on Kidde for not taking a little extra time and creating an escape ladder than can be used over and over (with the requisite "must be inspected for damage after use" etc.). I am a first responder, and to tell kids, "this is how it's gonna work, look at the pictures, and you'll see when the time comes...." is complete and utter nonsense. Adults AND kids panic in these situations and without some confidence because you've done it before, what you will likely end up with is a disaster. It IS lightweight, but I'm sorry, I can't rate its "sturdiness" or "easy to use" because I can't use it until I have a house fire! Maybe they should sell them as a set of two, one to practice with and one for the real deal, I don't know, but as is this item is one big fat disappointment. ONE USE ONLY should be more prominently displayed on the item description.
