Inconsistent garbage.
Purchased three of these microphones so we could set up a three-person recording room for podcasting. The audio we were able to record was wildly inconsistent: one of us would sound just fine, the other's vocal quality was mediocre, while the third person sound like they were a mile away in an echo chamber.
First step: Verify all three mics are working. Check.
Second step: Verify all input levels / gains are consistent. Check.
Third step: Make sure it isn't a cable issue (record a sample from all three mics using the same cable / input on the board). Check.
Final step: Record a sample from the exact same position, exact same person, exact same set up -- basically just unplug and swap out the mic so that no other variables are present but which mic is being used...
BINGO!
Mic 1: Crisp, clear audio. No inherent echo. Recording vocals with a peak of about -10 to -8db.
Mic 2: Ok audio. Slight echo. Recording vocals with a peak of about -12 to -18db.
Mic 3: Tinny, echo-chamber sound. Recording vocals with a peak of about -22 to-25db.
NOTHING changed but the mic. Same position in the room, same distance from speaker, same cable attached to mic, same input levels / gain.
This is clearly a quality control issue. I would imagine this is why the reviews of this mic are all over the place. If you are lucky, you get a decent one. If not, well...
Also, as a side note: the tightening bar on the swing arm (to attach it to a desk or whatnot) is such weak material that it bends with just the slightest pressure.
I spent over $100 for ONE good microphone, ONE barely acceptable microphone, and ONE piece of absolute garbage microphone.
Not happy at all, and I'd strongly recommend you go with another brand.
Edit: Now that Amazon has "oh so helpfully" removed the comments on reviews, I want to amend this with some of the additional information that came up in the comments to this review:
Yes, the mics are running through a mixer with 48v phantom power. So they are not underpowered in my testing. In fact, I have even upgraded to a better mixer than the one I had been using and the failings of this mic are, if anything, even more pronounced.
The company reached out to me and sent me ONE replacement mic (something they were able to do in the comments, that no longer exist by the way). So now I have a total of FOUR of these. Still, only one of them performs decently. A 25% chance of getting a decent mic is a pretty abysmal gamble.
