SURGE PROTECTOR 4360 Joules, 600/600/600 volts Clamping Voltage:
As a life long electronics technician, and instructor (Technical College Level) I was disappointed when this unit arrived, and I read the actual specs. Disappointed at high clamping voltage! There are two parameters that define the worthiness of an electrical surge protector: 1. Clamping Voltage: The lower, the better. 330=Good 400=Fair 500=Poor (this unit is rated at a disappointing 600 volts, almost twice the preferred rating. Not good. It won't start working until your equipment has been subjected to higher voltage surges than most equipment is ever rated to safely handle without damage. 2. Joule Rating: The higher the better. I advise at least 3,000 joules as this also protect the unit itself. This is the amount of excess energy that the unit can withstand once the voltage rating has been exceeded. This unit is rated at 4,360 joules. However, it might be a million joules, and not do any good if the clamping voltage is too high and the it doesn't start clipping off the excess voltage soon enough! 700 volts is the rating on this unit, and that is the worst clamping voltage that I've ever seen on a surge protector. The 6-foot power cord is a bit shorter than most. 07/20/2021 Addendum The supplier wrote me, and said that they had dis-continued selling this product, and have a new source for surge protection devices. Many viewers found my response helpful, so I will leave it posted, and ask that you consider the fact that the supplier is providing new products of better quality. Thank you.
