Doesn't Feel Like $200 Premium Headphones
This is at least my third or fourth pair of Sennheiser headphones, and definitely among my 10th+ set of "high-quality" headphones. My gold standard after all these years is a pair of Sennheiser 555s, which I picked up for around $90, and remained among the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever owned. Comfort with headphones comes from three main factors:
Head clamp pressure
Ear breathability
Head pressure
The 555's I owned performed as absolute champs across the board. You could wear them for days without any issue.
Seeing a pair of 599's on sale for $100, which normally go for $200, I thought I'd be getting a terrific deal. Immediately out of the box though, the feeling was certainly "these do not feel like $200 headphones". There's a large amount of cheap feeling plastic. The headband cushion is the worst part, having a very thing, seeming unremoval strip, of rigid padding. After about an hour, even though these are not heavy headphones, you will start to feel pressure building up on your head. This is in spite of the ear cups themselves being fairly larger than normal, and not having much head clamp.
For Amazon and Sennheiser to work together on a product, promote is heavily on Prime Day, and co-brand it with that level of comfort is actually a little embarassing. It makes me think a little less of both Amazon as well as Sennheiser products, as it honestly feels much more like a $50 headphone sold for $100 than a $200 headphone dropped to $100.
If you can find it DEEPLY discounted, and have a very sturdy head, you can consider it. Anyone else who cares about comfort, give it a skip.
