Wow. Just Wow. I followed the instructions, connected the battery, plugged the unit into a dedicated socket. Powered on. It did not do any self test, just clicked between Online/Battery and you could hear the relay ticking back and forth. After 20-30 seconds I power it off, unplugged it and re-read the instructions. Then tried again and same thing. So again, I powered it off and read the instructions. The third time, same thing but when i went to power it down it popped, fizzed and a plume of smoke filled my room. I quickly unplugged it it kept beeping and smoking so I ran to get my fire extinguisher.... luckily, it did not actually catch fire, just smoldered some more and the beeping finally stopped. This is the 3rd APC UPS unit I have had, 2 of them have had major issues. The first one would report the battery bad when it was a brand new battery, this one nearly catches fire. This is not good. Thank goodness I was not injured or any major damage was done.
