Update: newest mat has grommets that RUSTED after only one month and no salt
Update: the newer walkway mat has cheap grommets in the corners that RUSTED after only one month use and no salt was used. The older grommets did not rust. Heattrak apparently has changed grommets to a cheaper metal. I no longer can recommend Heattrak because of the newer cheaper grommets. See photo. This is unacceptable for such an expensive item. ------------------------------ You must order a 20" extension cord to go from steps to walkway mat. The 9" riser distance is too great to connect with the cords manufactured on the stair warmer and on the walkway mat. I was not aware of this when I ordered the stairway mat to connect to my existing step warmers. I called Heattrak and was told I need an extender. I ordered the shortest connector, which is a 20" connector even though I only needed 9". Dumb that they don't make a standard riser length. I hope no one trips on the extra length of cord. I will update and let you know. This is the extender, although I ordered it directly from Heattrak over the phone: HeatTrak HR EXT20 Watertight Extender 20 Inch Also I must point out how much thicker and heavier the old stair mats were. They appeared to be rubber. This new very thin mat smells strongly of plastic. Luckily it is outside. The newer plastic stair mats are much thinner and move around easily on the step when not frozen down, as opposed to the old heavy mats which NEVER slid or moved. I hope no one slips on these thinner stair mats.
