OK, I found out that this is not approved for use in the United States at all. I purchased two of these radios, and they are paperweights at this point. They are illegal to sell, ship, market, and even use in the US, Amateur service or not because they are not type accepted. They cannot even pass the spurious emission part of type 90 or 97 acceptance as the signal it outputs is all over the place dirty. Baofeng produced this radio, a UV-5R by over powering the finals and it is not a good model. My original review was FIVE stars, but as it turned out to be such a bad value I should have got a UV-5R instead. It HAS passed type approval for part 90.
