I purchased these to use on top of my Keto Sweet "potatoes" for this coming Thanksgiving (NO potatoes used... mine are 100% keto-friendly with 100% cauliflower and a little 100% no sugar added organic pumpkin puree used as the sweet "potatoes" and are better than the real thing!). As the ad shows NO ingredients listed I took a chance and trusted they were sugar-free, BUT they are NOT!! They have Maltitol in them!! Let me explain... Sugar has a Glycemic index of 60 and Maltitol Glycemic index of 52!! Maltitol is a sugar alcohol and SOME sugar alcohols are fine for Keto, but NOT this one!! Like sugar, maltitol is a carbohydrate that contains calories. The body does not absorb all the calories in maltitol, but it still provides about 2 to 3 calories per gram, compared to four calories per gram of cane sugar. Since Maltitol is a carbohydrate and has calories, it also affects blood glucose! Maltitol syrup has a glycemic index of 52, which approaches that of table cane sugar at 60. The glycemic index is a measure of the effects of food on raising your blood glucose level. Even the powdered form has a glycemic index of 35, which is still higher than most other sugar alcohols and higher than all artificial sweeteners. That being said, it could/will throw you out of ketosis if you are on Keto and if you are a diabetic... it is going to raise your blood sugar!! Beware!! They are also in a SUPER small package for the money and the use of Maltitol... it's NOT worth it! I can't return these so I will donate them to a food pantry but I'm not going to consume these! And a side note... a WARNING for Isomalt, DO NOT exceed the recommended serving size. It's literally a laxative!! The package has so many different languages on it that it makes it so hard to read!!!
