This is a ripoff of the once great AMERICAN MADE CorningWare company!!!!
These FAKE FRENCH WHITE BAKING DISHES is a prime example of what is happening in the once great State of New York and USA products in general. CorningWare was originally a brand name for a unique glass-ceramic (Pyroceram) cookware resistant to thermal shock. It was first introduced in 1958 by Corning Glass Works in the United States. Glass-ceramic based Corning Ware can be taken from the refrigerator or freezer and used directly on the stovetop, in an oven or microwave, under a broiler, for table / serving use, and when ready for cleaning put directly into a dishwasher. Because of high taxes and extreme regulations against the Pyroceram material CorningWare was forced to layoff American workers and sell their good brand name to China to be exploited. These facsimiles’ look similar to the originals but are made of cheap Stoneware and not Glass-ceramic (Pyroceram). If you look at the bottoms you can see the difference. The original CorningWare is mostly flat and smooth on the bottom with maybe small edge ridges. The Stoneware has very pronounced ridges along the edge and in the middle of bigger pieces. This must be done to reduce direct heat applied to the surface and it adds needed extra strength for the inferior Stoneware material. Also the older CorningWare product information was stamped (Raised Emboss) onto the dish and not printed. If you have a Glass Top Stove it is made of Glass-Ceramic (Pyroceram). You get what you pay for.
