Producers went with CW vibe over LOTR. All you need to know.
This opening episode is cringe. The books are nearly a blank slate, really setting this up for a home run of a TV show but instead we got this. Sigh. Why go from 0 to 100 straight off? This all could have opened with an eerie vibe, the boys being spooked/followed by a Fade like in the book....its an old method for building plot called suspense, ever heard of it (thats a question for the producers/writers)? I can't stress enough how cool Wheel would have been with LOTR vibes, instead we're getting a CW vibes soap opera. Perrin has a wife who has to be reassured he loves her? Why. Also, that axe swing moment, whyyyyyyyyy. Mat has crappy parents....his mother is like, strung out? Ugh. What. Why are we adding pointless back stories AND skipping over Rands completely???????? I can't. Pike is wasted talent here but great casting as Moiraine Sedai. Can't deny that. AND WHERE IS THOM MERRILIN? No Thom, I'm out.
