★☆☆☆☆
Awful, fluff book!!!
My review. Others may disagree...that’s OK. Next Year in Havana, is an awful, predictable, fluff beach read. Think Hallmark Channel meets Telenovela. Complete with assumed dead relative who is alive and well. I was 8 when I left La Habana. Between my memory and Google maps, I can confirm that walks the characters took are a HIKE, not a stroll. My Cuban born Abuela (grandmother) had no desire to return or have her ashes spread in La Habana. She knew, with a shattered heart, that the Cuba she knew was GONE forever. She fully understood that she would live in the USA for the rest for life AND she was thrilled to become an American citizen. The characters are written in a predictable and pluffy manner. If you want to know about Cuban exiles in the 60s, call me and I will bring Mom and other family members. If you prefer the fluffy version, read Next Year in Havana.
