So when I got these I initially thought I wouldn't be able to use them because they seem so thin. However, I mailed a tester item to my mom with one (a sweater in no additional packaging since I sell clothing), and it arrived in perfect condition. Since then I've used them for all my clothing sales and customers frequently comment on how much they like them, and I've never had anything get damaged. You definitely wouldn't want to use them for anything with sharp corners or that could break or be crushed, but for soft items they work great and the adhesive strip is VERY strong.
