This is a review of the Amcrest IP2M-841 ProHD 1080P Wifi IP Security Camera.
You will get the camera, network cable, 10’ power supply and a wall-ceiling mount with hardware.
I purchased this to go with the Amcrest NV4108E Network Video Recorder. When I purchased the NVR, I was sad to find out my Trendnet and D-Link cameras were not compatible. ( I found a Wanscam worked, however, did not allow me customize it fully in the NVR as I hoped.) My goal is to convert my whole system over to the Amcrest now based on the quality and features this brand gives you. (Recording your network cameras is must and if you use the above combo, you can place the NVR in a remote location where nobody can see it. If anything happens, you can remote access your recordings and protect yourself. )
Now onto the meat and potatoes of this camera.
-Quality is exceptional compare to all my cameras. Even my very expensive D-Link. It is a nice solid feel, all movement is very smooth (very quiet with no clicking noises) and picture is by far the best of all my cameras. It is crisp and detailed. (Description states it uses a Sony image sensor and an Ambarella processor, so I have to assume the fact they use high quality components inside as well is a reason for this.)
-Zooming on all my cameras has been not recommended as it degraded the picture a ton. This has a nice zoom and you do not lose a lot of detail and the picture remains very useable even when fully zoomed. PTZ controls let you move camera up, down, right left and zoom.
-Setup was actually very simple. You can set this up using just a smart phone (app-QR code used) or you can use your PC to setup the camera by using the built in Amcrest web interface. I personally setup mine using the cameras built in IP interface – Firefox. You can log into the interface and change a ton of settings. Some of the settings you can change include ports, IP, P2P, PPPoE, Email (SMTP), WIFI, etc. To get this fine tuned, you will most likely end up taking a good 15-30 minutes to go through all the available features.
-You can setup numerous types of alarms. (Video-motion, audio, illegal access, network and SD card card errors.) Alarms can also be setup to email notifications which is nice.
-This is a full HD camera cable of 30fps and can be setup for VGA (640x480), 720P (1280x720) or 1080P (1920x1080) You can also adjust the fps lower if that is needed. The camera has pan-tilt and zoom with a wide 90 degree viewing angle. (Typical camera viewing area is from 45-maybe 80degrees.) This makes this great for monitoring large – wide areas.
-Has built in night vision. (Up to 32’) I use this in my front window. (Photo attached of day and night vision viewing.) My front window has no screen and I am able to see very well both day and night. (IR turned off at all times for my type of setup.)
-Records audio. (Also has aux in and out audio ports for even more setup options.)
-Has the ability to record to on board Micro SD card (not included and up to 32gb), FTP, NVR, Local Disc and the Amcrest Cloud platform . Note – When you register everything, you get a trial with 4 hours of Cloud Storage. If using SD card, you can remote view your sd card recordings. Recording can be selected from always, during certain times or during activity –triggers you can choose from.
-Has ability to be port forwarded for viewing using third party apps. I find this very useful as I use an app for my phone called IP CAM Viewer to view all my cameras at one. (Wanscam, Trendnet, D-Link and now Amcrest). A lot of the IP cameras online are not compatible with third party apps.
-Can be mounted upside down as well as there is an invert picture and flip picture feature in the interface.
Cons
-Just one real one and that it is not yet compatible with the 5ghz Wifi Band. My 2.4ghz band is more than fast enough to support all features I am using, however, that would have been a nice feature allow me to setup on more of my network bands that are less crowded.
Summary – This is a perfect companion for the Amcrest NVR which is why I tried it. It works great both with the NVR, stand alone and with or without a pc. Video –snapshots and quality is the best of all my cameras thus far and so far it has not gone down or had any connectivity issues. Will take time to save to convert my other cameras over, but finally found a high quality (yet still affordable) in terms of the features and what you can do with it. I would recommend this to friends and family.
