Out of the 5, one had something rattling around in it and I didn't want to take it apart to see what it was and risk voiding the warranty. After contacting the seller I was given a discount for the odd one, so I felt I could open it and see. It is a good thing I did, because it was a metal clip that could have caught between the plug blade slots and shorted out! We removed it completely and other than that it works fine. I am using 2 of them outside. One runs a mercury vapor yard light that I only use a short time every night and don't have a switch indoors to control it (the switch and light are out in the barn) so I turn it on with the remote before going out. It is about 30 feet from the house. I need to drop the receiver down to a more clear line since the 3rd wall it has to go through sometimes makes it hard to get lit. The second one we use on a pond pump so we can turn it on and off from in the house. We turn it off at night. During the winter it is hooked to a small lighted tree that we turn on at night. 2 are being used in the house, one to control a light and one to control a fan that brings heat upstairs from a wood stove. The one on the light is used a lot and I have the second remote in the bedroom so I can leave the living room light on until I am in bed, then I shut it off from in there. I can also turn on that light before getting up in the morning. The 5th one is a floater, I use it here and there as needed. Right now it is running an electric fence for winter moose control that we sometimes have to turn off while watching certain tv channels because of interference. This way we can turn it off and on without going outside in the cold and dark and un plugging it. I have not tried any of the other programming things you can do with these since we don't need that capability so I can't say anything about how they work, or don't. These work well and I am happy with my purchase. If I needed more I would not hesitate to buy them again.
