Fit and finish are good, not exceptional
Think before you buy! First, the unit is completely functional and can be installed by any DIY type with a few basic tools and a stud sensor. Fit and finish are good, not exceptional, but more than adequate for the purpose so thats the 4 rather than 5 stars.
Second, Price is just OK "as is" but I waited and got a set from the Amazon Warehouse deals as a damaged box for 1/2 the price. Both units were perfect. So at 1/2 the price I think its a great deal.
THIRD, and most important point is consider what you are actually doing, where its going, and if you are really going to save any space. My bikes are about 38 inches from the ground to the suggested handlebar attachment location on the lift. The brackets + hooks are about another 12 inches. Together, this is about 50 inches suspended down from the ceiling. You Need to have close to a 10 foot high ceiling height or you will be banging your head into the tires every time you walk under the bike if you mount the bike as suggested in the instructions. I first used the 2x4 mount and hooked the bike as indicated and pulled it up as high as possible but the tires were about eye level and were a dangerous obstacle.
Alteration: if you loosen the bolts on the hooks and turn them 90 degrees and retighten you can put the hooks on the tires/rims rather than the seat and handlebar hub and essentially raise the bike the whole way to the ceiling where the handlebars are touching the ceiling. You may need a bungee cord around the front tire and frame to keep the wheels parallel during the lift but it works fine. Flush mounting the plates to the ceiling rather than the 2x4 method will give you an additional 1 1/2 inch clearance depending on your installation. So with these two changes my tires are now 6 feet 4 inches off the ground in my 9 foot 9 inch ceiling garage. You probably also want to mount the unit against a wall to get the overhead "obstacle" as out of the way as possible. Even if you can walk under it, it feels unnatural to have bike tires 4 inches over your head when you get out of the car.
If I can figure out how, I' ll put a photo in the user photo section.
