I've used many different cat water fountains over the years and this one definitely outshines them all. Three things I pay attention to: cleanability, filter design, and noise. On cleanability: Stainless steel won't absorb particles or bacteria over time like some plastics can. There also aren't a lot of deep nooks and crannies where a brush would be necessary to clean on this model, which means less hassle and more assurance the bowl gets clean and stays clean. On filter design: Other cat water fountains I've used don't put a filter around the pump, which means it gets clogged with hair and food bits quickly. This model has two filters: a carbon filter built into the top for normal water filtering, and a porous filter surrounding the pump's inlet, which would protect against hair and food particles. This should help prevent the pump impeller from getting clogged and keep the pump running longer. On noise: This cat fountain is dead silent to my ears no matter how open/closed the spout is. We've got it running in a spare bedroom, doors open, and definitely can't hear it around the house. Some other cat water fountains are noisier either from the pump struggling or the water splashing into a pool of water. It got annoying some days, but those days are gone with this fountain. Bonus: We recently adopted a new kitty (~ 6 m.o.) to add to our pack and he absolutely loves playing with the water fountain! He stays fascinated with it for 30+ minutes each time we let the spout shoot farther, giving us lots of laughs and fond memories. Bottom line: I highly recommend this water fountain and I hope your kitties will enjoy it too!
