For cats who exit litter pans like it's a rocket launcher. Or something. [Review edited 9/20/2017]
I have two cats. One has "normal" litter pan habits, while the other...er...well, let me explain. When cat #1 needs to use the facilities, he calmly approaches the litter pan, steps inside, gently digs a hole, does his business, carefully covers his "deposit," then calmly steps out of the litter pan and goes about his day. Normal. Calm. As a matter of fact, he's so quiet and unobtrusive about it I have to TRY and catch him using the pan (which I do regularly, as I had a cat at one point that developed Feline Urological Syndrome, and ended up needing surgery. So I like to make sure my cat's "plumbing" is working at all times). Cat #2 has a totally different method of relieving himself. First of all, he announces (via constant meowing) that he's headed to the litter pan. "I need to go potty, folks! Get out of my way!". Once arriving at the pan, he jumps inside and spends a couple of minutes digging several holes until he finds the optimal spot. Of course, this hole digging requires much energy - energy which flings litter all over the floor. Then, he does his business, and - you guessed it! Proceeds to cover it up with as much enthusiasm as he devoted to the original hole-digging. Are we done yet? Oh no. Because then he has to push the (invisible to me) ejector button and launch himself out of the pan like he's escaping a doomed fighter jet - Top Gun - scattering litter EVERYWHERE and then tearing through the house at top speed, meowing the entire time ("I did it! I went potty! In the pan!") The two litter pans I bought the Petphabet pan to replace were kept in the back hallway of my house (tile floor). Every day, when I cleaned the pans, I have to sweep up anywhere from 1/2 - 1 cup of litter. With that much litter on the floor, naturally it got tracked throughout the entire house. I had tried hooded litter pans in the past, but the last time cat #2 accidentally knocked the hood off when he was using it (are you surprised?) and it scared him and he refused to use that pan with the hood on after that. The lid of the Petphabet pan clamps on firmly, yet the latches are very easy to open and close. There are two other features of this pan I really like; first, it's molded out of one piece of plastic. There are no raised areas on the bottom of the pan (the other two pans this one replaced both had depressions running around the bottom perimeter of the pans themselves, that would trap wet litter - making it very difficult to clean). Second, the sides of the bottom piece are quite high, so you can use a lot of litter (which makes it far easier to clean, because the wet matter doesn't sink to the bottom and get stuck). Upon receipt of the Petphabet pan, I immediately threw away one of my old pans. Then, I scooped up a few clumps from the remaining pan and placed them in the new Petphabet. Cat #2 used the new pan almost immediately. Cat #1 was a bit more apprehensive because when he entered the pan for the first time, he boinked his head on the hood as he got in. To encourage both cats to use the new Petphabet pan exclusively, I continued to clean out the old pan but have not been adding any new litter. Because cats like to dig and bury their "business," over the past two weeks the old pan has become far less attractive to both of them. Both cats are now using the new pan almost exclusively (I saw only two small clumps in the old pan this morning, while the Petphabet pan is full). I plan to dispose of the old pan entirely tomorrow. Insofar as the cat #2's scattering litter all over the place, while the Petphabet pan apparently also includes an invisible ejector button for his use, now just a small amount of litter is being scattered when he exits the pan - no more than a couple of tablespoons a day. YAY! Edited 9/20/2017: Unfortunately, I find myself in the position of having to edit my review and decrease my rating from 5 to 4 stars. While I still believe the Petphabet Jumbo Hooded Cat Litter Box is a good product, their customer service leaves much to be desired. I adopted another kitty in the beginning of July of this year, and so ordered a second Petphabet on 7/7/2017. On 7/18/2017, I received an email from Petphabet asking me to write a product review. I responded to that email the same day, explaining this was my second purchase and that, in fact, I had already written a review on 10/5/2016 which was the TOP REVIEW of the product here at Amazon. (I had no plans to write a SECOND review, as that would artificially inflate the product rating). I requested Petphabet kindly verify my original review, and not send me anymore requests to review the product a second time. I received a reply indicating they would do so. On 8/16/2017 I received ANOTHER email from Petphabet asking me to review the product. Once again, I replied immediately, reiterating I had already reviewed the product the first time I purchased it. I included with that reply my previous communications with Petphabet from their first email request I write another review. I also advised Petphabet if I received any more requests to write another review, I would revise my initial review of the product. Today, 9/20/2017, I received a THIRD email from Petphabet again asking me to review the product. So that's why I'm here. The issue I have with them repeatedly hounding me to write multiple reviews is if I were to comply, that would artificially inflate the product rating. My guess is many repeat customers *would* write another review just to get them off their back. By continuing to harass me to write another review, Petphabet is showing me they don't value repeat customers or reviews already written - that all they care about is making sales. The more product reviews there are, the more likely the overall rating of the product will be positive. (This is not the first time I have purchased an item more than once, but this IS the first time a company has asked me to write a second review for a product I purchased and reviewed previously). To all of you who left comments on my original review saying Petphabet should send me something for my great review, thank you. But, Petphabet apparently doesn't even know I bought the product a year ago AND posted this review - which doesn't bode well for anyone who may have a negative experience with the Petphabet Jumbo Hooded Cat Litter Box and tries to get it resolved through Petphabet.
