Great keyboard and case combo with a few MINOR problems
This is an excellent keyboard portfolio case for those who want protection plus and a keyboard on a budget. The keyboard is detachable and held in by magnets. The back kickstand is also magnetic. Now some people have complained about magnets interfering with the S pen sensitivity when writing or drawing, but not with this folio case. I have an EMF reader app installed which senses electromagnetic fields. When placed on top the keyboard, the readings spike to several hundred milligauss. When place on the back of the case on the kickstand magnet, the readings go to several hundred miligauss yet again. But when placed inside the case, the readings are at 0. No magnetic interference is picked up by device when in its case. I'm not sure why this is since the magnet from the kickstand is directly behind it at this point. I've tested the app with my phone, magnets, Nintendo 3DS from the front, back, and sides and get constant readings, so I know the app is working properly in all directions, thus providing an interference free enviroment for writing or drawing. That being said, on to the cons. One thing I've noticed is the the accessibility of the stylus. It is rather difficult to pull out once the tablet is in its case, but that problem is soon overcomed by the addition of a S pen holder on the right side of the case. When in the holder, the tablet somehow picks up when the folio is closed and acts as if the S pen is in its slot. When the folio is open, it notifies you that the S pen is removed. Again, I have no idea how this is happening, but it's an excellent feature. Another con I've encountered is the inability to reach the charge port when the case is folded shut. Fortunately the folio spine is flexible, allowing the user to fold it in the opposite direction, leaving the charge port completely exposed. The keyboard is also made in such a way, when folded in reverse, it sits completely flush with its own cradle so no keys are pressed when put on a flat surface. The keyboard also has a small elevated area for more comfort when typing and wrist support, helping to prevent carpal tunnel. Weight is also an issue with this case, but if you don't use the keyboard much; it is detachable, releaving most of the weight. One last con is the use of Bluetooth 3.0 instead of 4.0. Battery life is decreased with 3.0, but the Galaxy Note has such a good battery already, it's a moot point. Would I recommend this? Highly, even more than some other cases that cost up to three times as much.
