Wonderful -- for beginners and advanced users
Have to start out by saying I am a novice with a sewing machine. I have used a sewing machine before but never really got the hang of it. So experienced sewing people, this may not be the review for you.
As a beginner, I assumed there would be a bit of a learning curve to take on this machine. However, I was so surprised to discover that though it is very sophisticated and powerful, it is very easy to set up and use. Setting up pretty much involved unpacking, plugging in the foot pedal and the power cord, clicking in the base that also holds accessories, and you are ready to start.
Getting the thread from spool to needle was very easy, and hey, it has an automatic needle threader! Well, I gotta say that I have not yet figured out exactly how that works. It is much easier to thread the needle the old-fashioned way, imo.
Bobbin is easy to manage, and even the foot is super easy to change with a single button and a click. These are things I was intimidated by with other machines I have tried in the past. No longer an issue!
One of my favorite features of the machine is the speed control on the front of the machine. I do not know if this is common with newer machines, but it is a wonderful feature especially when you tend to have a lead foot on the pedal but aren't ready for that kind of stitching speed. Of course, it also helps with different fabric types for the cleanest stitches.
The panel to the right with LCD display and buttons is intuitive and easy to use. I started testing the fancy stitching right away and had a blast. (Included a photo below of a few of the 221 stitches available).
The larger sewing area is great. Makes sewing accurately and confidently much easier. Not only is it wider front-to-back than other machines, but it sticks out to the left a lot more.
A wishlist item -- I wish the bobbin tension could be adjusted. The manual says it has been adjusted for you and so will not require adjustment, but I found it to be a little too tight. It would be nice to have the option to manually nudge the tension one way or another.
Aesthetically, the machine is beautiful. The metallic finish gives it a modern but classic feel, and the shape has the cool retro feel that makes me want to leave the machine on display all the time.
My mom, who is a very experienced seamstress, is also intrigued by the machine and loves its features. Most importantly to me, this machine has made sewing not so scary anymore. So I'd say this machine is a great buy for all sewing levels since we are at the polar opposites of the spectrum.
I have had this machine now for nearly 4 weeks and I have barely scratched the surface of all its capabilities so this review is in no way complete yet. I plan to update it as I uncover more features and tackle real projects with it. Cheers!
