Evocative and challenging
Excellent. I have played all three of these on my fire, and it continues to amaze me. These are fun, spooky games that are clearly inspired by literature far more than film. There are flavors of Lovecraft, Barker, Poe, and others throughout. That's not too say there is a lot of reading in the game, because there is not. By using organic storytelling, distinctive graphics, and a subtle but effective soundtrack, the game manages to invoke the same moods those authors could with their writings. This, more than anything else, makes it a perfect game for kindle owners. We are, after all, the book readers in this brave new digital age. As for the third installment, it may be my favorite. Ambitious and engaging, it takes the player deeper into the heady world of the old gods, moving past the sacred geometry of the previous chapters, and into the haunted cosmos of the aforementioned authors. All of the games have good replay value ( if you wait long enough to forget the puzzle solutions ), but the third installment improves on this immensely by including alternate endings that can be played after you finish once. In fact, as much as I could continue to sing the praises of this app, I leave now to enter the labyrinth again. Frightened by the knowledge that I may never have escaped in the first place.
