A common criticism that this album and it's predecessor receive is that it is a rehashing of "classic rock" using a Marvel Studios film to market it. While on the surface this may be true it is far more important to note that when you view the films the music enhances it and vice versa. I bought this digital album prior to the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". There were several songs that I enjoyed thoroughly. I listened to them several times a day and was happy with my purchase, but then I viewed the film.... Everything changed.... The film integrated the music fully in such a way that now when I listen to any song I can place it in the film and am able to relive scenes from the film. For example, when I hear Mr. Blue Sky I can picture Groot dancing to it. For this reason I feel the true value of the album comes through once a consumer has seen the movie and not to be enjoyed separately.
