Works as advertised, with Torque and Torque Lite.
I use this product to read OBDII trouble codes, find out the possible causes, and clear the codes. Often, a random, non-constant "event" will trigger a code to be set in your car's ECU. If you check the code, and suspect it to be a one-time event, use this tool and the smartphone app to clear the code. Stop and restart your engine. If the Check Engine Light is off and the app can't find any current codes, you're done. You just saved $75-100 or more on diagnosis of a non-existent problem. BUT if the light and the code keep coming back, it's a REAL problem, so take your vehicle to a mechanic and have it diagnosed and repaired.
I recently saw codes and the dreaded Check Engine light. The codes suggested a problem with the Evaporative Emission system, including a possible faulty gas-tank cap. I figured it was bogus because we'd recently had the EvapEmissionSsystem repaired at considerable cost, with a lifetime warranty on parts and labor. I wanted to avoid a time-consuming trip to the mechanic that was most likely unnecessary. I opened and re-closed the cap, cleared the codes and restarted the car. All clear. This kind of thing happens in hot or rapidly-changing weather, and it's not a real problem. However, if the codes and light keep coming back, you do have a problem that will need to be fixed before your next safety inspection!
