For almost 2 years, we had the Grandpad for my mother who is in the nursing home. We wanted to be able to connect face to face whenever convenient, and it worked. However, it had issues, like it had difficulty hearing her voice which is very light, and no matter how many times I tried to call her, it never rang on her side, so I'd have to wait for her to call me. I decided to try the Facebook portal to see if it was better, and if it didn't work out I was just going to use it in my home. I'm really glad we got this! The best features about this in our situation is number one, it hears her soft voice even from across the room. Number two she's in a wheelchair and likes to move around when she's talking, so would constantly drop the grand pad, but with Facebook portals sitting on the desk and tracking her movements, she doesn't have to hold it, so it never gets dropped. And, when a nurse or someone comes in the room it refocuses to include both of them which is fantastic. And even better, she doesn't have to touch the screen at all, which is good because she would get lost in the different options. She has more limited intellectual or I should say technical capabilities now, so all she has to do is say "hey Facebook call ___" and it does! We are all very, very happy with this purchase, and I'm getting a second one for my house!
