To strawberry or not to 🍓
Okay so it's pretty compact gadget. I'm yet to use it. But the instruction booklet has made me a little nervous. Instructions to assemble are just okay considering it's a big book it could be better and clearer. For example - if anyone wondering what the 'hopper' is.. it goes on the top where you insert food. You'd think they'd mention that in the assemble instructions.
The instructions tell you not to juice strawberry, yet in it's book it has a juice recipe that includes strawberries. I want to juice ginger but if it can't handle a strawberry?? The recipes do include ones with ginger but no idea if that it'll be ok.
Lastly the sorbet attachment comes with no instruction? How do I make sorbet with it? Am I to assume I freeze the fruit first? Pretty poor from Dash. Oh they also say follow them on Instagram - yet their instagram has no useful help on using this product.
Update: So I decided to juice ginger (carrot, celery, beetroot, blackberries, orange, apple and just a few seedless grapes (another no no according to it's book), to see what happens. It worked ok. I will say the pulp that comes out gets blocked easily - or maybe it feels like it's blocked as it's a very small exit hole. Tip for cleaning, turn the part upside down and you'll see a rubber stopper that covers the hole where the pulp comes out. You can pull it down to clean. It worries me that rubber part won't last but we will see.
As for the juice. It was good. Did I get more juice than of I had used my $50 juicer, I'm not convinced. The carrot pulp was dry but not as dry than my cheap juicer. But this thing is surprisingly quiet, makes less mess (my juicer tends to spit pulp everywhere) and this thing is smaller on my counter.
You do need to chop up your fruit and veg into small bits so there is a bit more faffing than using a regular juicer but that seems very typical of this type of juicing.
Update:
I used the sorbet. Frozen fruit, left out from freezer for 15mins so not to be rock hard. Use attachment and the sorbet will come out the pulp end. Wasn't bad, but it comes out in this square swirl so it looks a bit meh but tastes as one would expect frozen mushed fruit to taste.
Also if you have trouble with it turning it on, it has a safety feature that the top must be on correctly. Save your little fingers. Ensure the top is correctly clicked in. And try again.
