I've searched at multiple stores to find the best doggie door before I was going to puncture a hole in my house and install a cheap, flimsy, or otherwise very ugly looking doggie door. I would normally rate this product a 3 for two reasons. First the price i've seen on store shelves for this item is very high, and I would not purchase it again at the $100 price tag I paid for it. Second, although this is in my opinion one of the nicest looking doggie doors, the brown plastic telescoping piece is the weak point for this product. Even following the manufacturers instructions and recommendation to add additional stud support for the telescoping piece, I added studs to all sides, top and bottom, for the doggie door installation. What gives this product 4 stars for me is again accompanied by two reasons. First, the one year warranty the company provides is hassle-free. After 10 months of having the doggie door installed, my German Shepherd ran out into the backyard through the doggie door, ripping the outside half of the telescoping brown part, and taking it with her on her way out. The telescoping piece is a very cheap and flimsy plastic that is only secured to the wall by screws. Even with the additional stud support, plus Gorilla tape where the telescoping seams met together, the product failed after 10 months, and I believe it would have failed much sooner without the added stud support. I called up PetSafe, told them the problem, and they placed me in queue to receive a replacement doggie door free of charge, however they were back ordered for about two weeks. Since purchasing this product on Amazon, I did have to take a screen shot of my invoice as proof of purchase and email it to them, but they accepted it without any hassle. In the meantime, I still had an unusable and unfixable doggie door and a large gaping hole in my house. After inspecting the original telescoping portion and seeing the major design flaws, I decided that I could do it better, and customize it to my liking. The aluminum trim and flap are well thought out and built very well. I ran down to the local hardware store and built my own telescoping portion, however this time there was nothing telescoping about it. I cut some pine wood to the width of my walls, starting with the top and bottom pieces, then the sides. I pieced together two frames that the aluminum flap pieces would slide onto and be secured by screws. I then sanded and stained all the wood to give it a nicer look and protection for the wood. I then attached the frames to the wood I installed in the walls by screws and secured the aluminum flaps to the frames. Now I have a finished product that is very strong which to me is the second reason for giving it 4 stars. Expect this doggie door to break on you if the installation was weak, or you have large dogs that like to storm in and out through the doggie door. Eventually the telescoping plastic will break.
