Great Travel Accessory
The AirFly does a great job at what it's designed to do, but there are still some advantages to wired headphones that the AirFly can't beat.
Pros:
The AirFly is small and lightweight. It easily fits into your carry-on bag and the pouch that comes with it helps ensure that you don't lose the small headphone cable and USB-to-microUSB charging cable. I typically carry my AirPods on the plane when I travel so that I can listen to music on my iPhone. Having this device with me allows me to also listen to the in-flight entertainment system without having to carry another pair of wired headphones or using the cheap free headphones that they give you on the plane. It's easy to pair your AirPods with the AirFly and the sound quality is good.
Cons:
As with any wireless technology, it requires charging. I found that the AirFly battery lasts about as long as my AirPods, which is about 4-5 hours. If you're on a short flight, you shouldn't need to charge, but if you are on a long flight, you'll need to take a break to charge the AirFly and your AirPods. It is possible to charge the AirFly while using it if the headphone jack and USB port are close together on the plane's in-flight system. However, I found that I still needed to charge my AirPods, which you don't have to worry about with traditional wired headphones. There is also a small delay in the sound since the AirFly has to convert an analog signal into a digital one to send over bluetooth to your headphones. This does take some time and results in a small delay, but it wasn't very noticeable to me.
Overall, the AirFly is great if you're going on a flight that lasts less than 5 hours. For longer flights, you might want to consider just bringing a good pair of wired headphones so that you can listen to the in-flight entertainment without needing to stop and recharge.
