When considering the purchase of an air purifier, please consider what you wish to accomplish before making your purchase. I have spent as much as $400 for a giant HEPA/charcoal air purifier that is great for dealing with dust, pet hair, and so on, but it faired poorly in trying to remove smoke odors. Simply put, smoke particles can be as small as .01 microns and it does no good to use an air cleaner that can only clean down to .3 microns (or larger). The only effective (reasonably-priced) alternative solution are these Ionic type air cleaners that are not only able to collect such small particles but also produces fresh, clean-smelling air that further reduces the smoky odors. While these types of air cleaners are not capable of filtering a large volume of air (like the larger HEPA filters - especially the really big ones), this unit has a small two-speed fan that does improve the air flow compared to units that do not. Lastly, this unit will definitely save you money over time because you are able to clean the collector plates instead of replacing the various filters (some can be as much as this unit and require replacement every 6 - 12 months). So again, please think of what you are trying to accomplish before making your investment. :)
