Sally Beauty quality at a fraction of the price!
I just received this wax kit today and was LONG overdue for some facial waxing!! I don't need much but man I am so over he tedious process of tweezing with an up close mirror and the flashlight on my phone. Every time I used to get waxed at a salon I would have terrible breakouts and rashes, which is why why explored waxing at home instead. So... suffice to say this is not my first time waxing myself at home. I used to have the GiGi kit from Sally Beauty, it was okay but honestly in my personal opinion this kit is WAY better. My kit came with 3 packages of purple beads, and 2 packages of dark blue beads. The difference? I'm not sure, but what I gather from the beads I buy at Sallys, the purple is for more sensitive areas and the blue is for more coarse hair/bikini area.
So, let's get to the process. I read EVERY review for this particular kit amongst numerous others, and this kit worked perfectly for me. Below are my tips and tricks to get the perfect wax & how to avoid those pesky "strings" as best as possible.
1. Turn the heat up ALL the way. I know I know... sounds dangerous. It's not. Just trust me!
2. While it's preheating, add your desired amount of beads. You don't have to add allllllll of them! For example, I did my upper lip and in between my brows just to clean it up (blonde hair here) & I added maybe a quarter of the bag and still have a bunch of melted wax left in the pot. This is also the perfect time to spray the area(s) you're waxing!
3. The less you add, the quicker it will melt. I know this seems like common sense, but a lot of the reviews on here complain about the melting time/temp situation.
4. Once all the beads are melted (mine took about 5 min) give it a nice good stir. Now this part is crucial.... like seriously crucial... TURN THE HEAT DOWN TO 200!
5. Wait like 5 or 10 minutes for the wax to cool a bit, and come to a nice thick consistency. If it's loose, that's a sign it's SUPER hot so do not put that on your face unless you want to get burned!
6. Okay, let's wax! I prefer the larger wood stick, as I get more coverage and can work faster. Here is my method:
---Stir the wax so you get a nice amount on the top side of your stick. Gently slide the bottom side at an angle on the metal of the pot, to remove excess wax from dripping here, there, and everywhere. NOW - to avoid the strings - twist the stick in a figure 8 with your hand horizontally. I know, this sounds so weird, but it works I promise.
7. Now when you're applying the wax, be sure to PRESS DOWN! The main reason your hairs won't come out even after applying and removing the wax is because without pressure, the wax adheres to itself and your skin, not gripping the hairs. Don't be scared to gently press down during application.
8. Let it dry for 30 seconds to a minute. It should be sticky or wet at all. If it is, you applied too much spray and it didn't dry enough prior to application.
9. This step is the most important. Gently lift a corner *opposite* of the direction your hair grows and hold it between your thumb and index finger. This seriously makes a huge difference. Take a deep breath in, a deep breath out. Another deep breath in, and on your second exhale RIP THAT BABY OFF! Your body feels pain different during the deep exhale and I swear it works.
9. Once you're finished waxing, instead of spraying the post wax spray directly onto your face, I'd put it on a qtip or paper towel and wipe the designated areas.
10. ICE. ICE. ICE. Guys... you just ripped hundreds of hairs from their follicles. That is disruptive to their natural state! If you get hives (I always do) that's not necessarily an allergic reaction, it's your skin saying "dang lady (or dude) what did you just do?!" Ice will be your best friend for redness and swelling and hive relief. With ice, redness and hives/swelling should go down in an hour depending on your skin type.
Anyways- really sorry for the long review I just thought if I could help ONE person, that's a good thing & I'd wished when I first started my at home beauty treatments I had someone to help guide me. This wax kit is amazing, just make sure you're using it correctly and you'll be good to go! Have a blessed day :)
