recommended for people who love being really, really toasty
for starters - i've owned one of sunbeam's heated throws before & used it every night on the highest setting for 2 years straight before it finally lost its heating power. i never got the dreaded 'f2' error, even after washing the thing a million times.
what a lot of low-star reviews i see on this product say that it is 'too heavy' or that 'the wires can be felt through the fabric' or other things of the sort. unlike a little heating mat you might use for your body, heated blankets have ACTUAL tangible wires in them. they're going to be kinda stiff, they're going to be heavy, they're going to feel awkward compared to a normal blanket. this is just something to be expected. you WANT to be able to feel the wiring in them because that's literally what's warming you up, and the more fabric that gets put between you and those wires, the less heat you're going to actually feel.
another thing i see is people complaining about how this blanket is 'unsafe' for elderly people or pets and whatnot - if you actually read the warning labels on both the product's package and the blanket itself, it says to NOT give this blanket to any people with mobility issues. this includes the elderly, para/quadriplegics, babies/toddlers, pets, anyone that might have difficulty escaping in case the blanket catches fire or something.
anyway, here's the product pros and cons:
pros:
- really soft
- on the light side for a giant blanket
- has 10 varying heat settings (if you just want to be a bit warm, or if you're like me and want to practically boil yourself on the 8/9 settings)
- automatically shuts off after 10 hours in case you forget to turn it off
- insulates heat well
- isn't uncomfortable to use during the night in a place with warmer weather (i live in texas. it's hot.)
- color in real life is true to the sample photo for the blanket
cons:
- takes a little while to begin heating up (about 10-20 minutes just to get warm) but i assume this is because it's large
- sheds red fuzzy bits a lot
- fabric gets kind of a matted feel after a few weeks of use
- gets dirty pretty easily (don't eat or do anything messy near it)
finally, please note that this is a full size blanket and not a throw. it's big. very big. it's meant to be on a bed; it's not very mobile at all. if you're looking for something that you can easily move from room to room, try one of sunbeam's throws instead.
