This is the second one of these I've bought. The first one lasted until I neglected to drain it prior to an arctic front moving in which, understandably, caused it to fracture. I attached mine to a post utilizing the screw holes in the base. I like the large print which makes it easy to read from 10' away. I see some negative reviews about this gauge cracking and breaking in cold weather. Also people complaing that it broke when they pounded it in to the ground. Folks, this is made of acrylic plastic. It's very brittle. Hamering on it is bound to break it. If you can't just push it in to the turf then you need to find a new spot or pound in a stake and then mount it to the stake. Cold weather: same thing - if you leave it out in below freezing temps with water collected in it it is GOING to BREAK! Physics 101: freezing water expands and will crack this open. This gauge is no different than any other whether plastic or glass: freezing temps will expang collected waater causing a fracture, And pounding on it is just dumb!
