This collar worked nicely, right out of the box. I can't speak for durability as I just got it, but my stubborn dog (but smart) tested it a couple times and quit barking! I bought it for my small hairless terrier, but it is much too large and heavy so I will hunt for a smaller one for her, but this worked well on my heavily coated 50# dog. The prongs are long and very smooth and should be safe and comfortable. If it holds up well, we will be a very happy dog family. I hope I can find the right batteries- they're a weird size, but they seem strong and durable. So far, so good. I might get another for my other larger dog so silence can reign supreme in our home, once again. 3 barking dogs is a lot to live with.
