I'm a big fan of this stovetop grill. My apartment building has the most sensitive fire alarm in the world. I have had it go off when I'm making quesadillas on my stove and I hadn't even burned anything. Since the entire building sets an alarm off in each apartment when one of the smoke detectors is triggered, I was a little nervous about trying this grill. I'm impressed that it did not produce a bit of smoke and the food came out great. You do have to preheat it. The instructions say to preheat until you can hear a "sizzle." I threw droplets of water on it with my fingertips until I heard a sizzle. For the photos I uploaded, I had marinated chicken overnight in a delicious mustard rosemary marinade and it turned out great. I also added some dried rosemary to the water ring and my apartment smelled like rosemary while it heated up and created some fragrant steam. It took about 15 minutes for my gas stovetop to heat the stovetop grill enough to hear a sizzle. Then I butterflied one of the chicken breasts and left the other one thick to test which one would come out better. They take longer than you think they will since the heat isn't concentrated like you get with an outdoor grill. I flipped over the chicken at around ten minutes and they didn't stick at all which is amazing since I didn't use a drop of oil to grease this grill (but there was some olive oil in the marinade). I used a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature and took off the chicken breasts when the meat met an internal temp of 165 degrees. Clean-up was easy. The surface is truly nonstick. The chicken came out delicious with a crisp "crust" on the outside, but truly tender and juicy on the inside. The butterflied chicken cooked faster and got more crisp since there was more surface area. Both came out great! I'm so excited to be able to grill in my apartment despite the sensitive fire alarm!
