I Was Skeptical, but Now I'm a Believer
[UPDATE April 18, 2016: It has almost been 5 months since I have owned this product. I have been using this phone holder every day for my work commute (2hrs per day). I have kept it in the CD slot ever since I have bought it. I have been noticing some very minor color changes of the protective rubber coating. It appears that it has turned to a lighter grey color due to long-term sun exposure (does not look bad at all...mind you, this is just my inner critic observing things). We'll see how much the color changes as the hot summer days approach. Needless to say, this does not affect the form, fit or function. For those who are still skeptical about the magnets interfering/damaging the smartphone, be advised that there is no danger. I have been using the same iPhone since then and all of the features work as intended. No drop in GPS signal, cell coverage, Bluetooth signal, etc...it all works seamlessly, even while attached to the magnetic phone holder. I hope this update was helpful in relieving any doubts. I see that the price has dropped since I have gotten it. You'd be crazy to not give this product a try! PS: I'm an engineer and I believe this is a well designed product. Very strong, durable and doesn't stick out too far to cause that unwanted pendulum "bobble" affect every time you hit a bump or crack in the road. FYI: I did NOT receive this product for free from Koomus in the hopes of an unbiased review. This was bought with my own money. :-) //end update] [ORIGINAL REVIEW (Dec. 5, 2015): I purchased this Koomus Pro CD-M phone holder because I was looking for an easy way to mount my iPhone 6 in my car. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical of this magnetic contraption and how it would be inserted into the CD slot. I did a bunch of research into this model and the affects that magnets have on the modern smartphone. My results were that the magnet would not cause any damage to the phone. You do not have to worry about losing any files because your phone has SSD (solid state drive). I know that the average person would think that any magnet is bad for electronics. Computers with hard drives can be harmed by a strong enough magnet because hard drives use magnetism to store information. SSD's on phones (and now in many computers) do not use magnetism, rather they use semiconductor technology. Therefore, you have nothing to fear with this magnetic phone holder deleting any media on your phone. Also, this does not affect your GPS apps (Apple Maps or Google Maps). I use Google Maps and the magnet does not interfere with its functionality. The GPS uses satellites, not a compass, to navigate. I have been using this phone holder every day for my hour commute to work since I've purchased it a week ago. I have an Otterbox Symmetry case on my phone and I put both metal plates between the phone and the case. The rubber coating on the magnet prevents any scratches. The phone will literally not come off of the holder unless you get into an accident or if someone knocks it off. I accidentally hit a few potholes this week and my phone didn't move at all. The ball-axis that the magnet sits on is firm as well and can be easily adjusted. The push button that keeps the holder fastened inside of the CD slot is firm and ensures a tight grip. I am happy that I chose this phone holder. It takes zero effort to use and it is a lot more convenient than the standard phone holder with a spring-loaded claw. I would recommend this phone holder to anybody and everybody. //end original review]
