My gut bacteria is in full party mode, which makes my life much better.
I kinda feel the need to explain why I, a grown man, even felt the need to buy colostrum. Normally I don't write long reviews (you can check my others and see for yourself). But sometimes I run into a product that is truly a joy to use, or makes a big difference in my life. And then I write a book about it.
First, lets go back and talk about my history with colostrum. No, don’t be silly, we’re not going *that* far back. My memory isn’t *that* good.
Just a few years ago, I learned about colostrum against my will. (Some of you may feel that men learn many things against their will, and my wife would agree with you completely). My accidental colostrum education happened in a long car ride that featured a conversation between my wife, a "scary strong advocate of nursing", and my aunt, who has a doctorate in nutrition. That day I learned that colostrum is one of the most amazing substances in the universe, right up there with duct tape and avocados.
Lets fast forward to the present. Today we know that gut health is key to having a happy life. My wife has steadily force fed me teachings about this, and I’ve had some independent verification when I had to take powerful courses of antibiotics after getting infections. (you’d hope the Utah badlands would be a bit more sterile since they are like a desert in places. But a knee scrape got just as infected as you would expect).
Antibiotics nukes this entire civilization in your gut and life there has to start all over again. Your body has a ton of beneficial bacteria in it that you need to protect. There are actually more neural pathways leading *from* your gut to your brain than the other way around. This has led some researchers to wonder who is really in charge in your body.
Science magazine published an article just last year stating, among other bombshells, that “obesity, eating disorders, and even depression and autism—all […] have been linked to a malfunctioning gut”. I'm not naïve enough to think that this is an exhaustive list. If there is one part of you that you will fix this year, make it adding colostrum to your gut and you’ll be waaaaaay ahead of the game.
So with gut health on my mind, I was really desperate to "level up" and I found my solution in this Ancestral Supplements Colostrum.
This colostrum is like my Leatherman wave multitool, solving a lot of problems in one convenient package (Just like the science magazine said! Maybe one day science will actually catch up to nature). The multifunctional nature of Colostrum is great for people like me who want to take one supplement that solves many problems. This is because colostrum is one whole unadulterated substance.
I was seriously tempted to try a competitor, the Colostrum LD product. But when I read into it, I found that Colostrum LD is an engineered product, with the critical nutritional fats removed. This is because humans have a long (and delusional) history of thinking they are smarter than nature. Then they make up some crazy marketing absorption percentages because humans are supposed to love big shiny numbers more than they love common sense. I used to buy into all that garbage and now I’m just into whatever is natural. Natural foods don’t have a PAC lobbying for them but they should.
The bottle of Ancestral Supplements colostrum, upon opening it, had little to no odor. The faint aroma seemed natural and pleasant. The pills went down as easily as any other I’ve taken. Not much to report there. It has the usual anti-tamper barrier, a couple of cotton balls as free gifts (ok, to hold the product still in shipping), and a packet that keeps the colostrum dry and happy.
I started off taking 2 pills a day, and I even took them on an empty stomach. I don’t know if this mattered but its too exhausting for me to be smart all the time. I need products that are a little forgiving. I metabolized the Ancestral Supplements product flawlessly. No bloating or toilet time issues of any kind. Which is what I would expect from quality colostrum. I worked up to 6 pills a day (2 per meal).
Ancestral supplements customer service has been amazing. They responded quicker than any other Amazon sellers I have dealt with (many of whom don’t bother to respond) and answered my questions completely and carefully. I was curious about the recommended dosage, which they said was an amount they found worked best for most people. They were especially cool about my questions about the colostrum, assuring me that it was a whole food as nature intended. (Whew! What a relief.)
In the case of the Ancestral Supplements Colostrum, I have felt a definite improvement in overall health. My gut bacteria is having a fine party down there, and I want them to be as happy as can be. I was having some gut issues that I believe were due to being on Cipro for 8 weeks and those problems have totally cleared up. I’m looking forward to seeing if there is continued improvement in my allergies and psoriasis, and I’ll post an update about that as soon as I feel more comfortable that the improvement is definite, hopefully by seeing it go into full remission.
While I may have been bored in that car ride long ago, I do believe that these things happen for a reason. I decided to try colostrum based on that car ride. Both my wife and my aunt are very smart people.
If you are on the fence about trying this product, I would recommend that you go for it. I don’t find that 100% natural things are a big risk. Unless its prunes, and you eat too many. But thats a story for another time.
I would recommend this product. If you have any questions for me, please post a comment below, and I’ll do my best to answer it. But I won’t be as fast as Ancestral Supplements customer service, it will take me a few days in most cases.
