Great scooter, wear a helmet!
I was going to get a cheaper scooter for our 2.5 year old, but decided to splurge and get something that'll last a couple of years. We got this for her for xmas, and she was a bit timid at first, but she is zooming around on it quite fast now. She still can't use the brake, but she is capable of putting her foot down and coming to a stop. The handlebars on this deluxe model are height adjustable. We set it to about a quarter of the way up from the lowest setting. Unfortunately, the handlebars slowly sink until it bottoms out. The locking mechanism feels fairly tight, but with enough downward pressure, or enough riding with light downward pressure (especially going over small bumps plus vibrations), and the handlebar will drop. So you have to keep readjusting every couple of days. Not that big of a deal, but worth mentioning (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). When the handlebars are at the highest setting, it actually locks into place. There is a small spring loaded button that gets engaged when the handlebars are all the way up. In order to lower it, you have to unclamp, and then press the button. Warning: this scooter is prone to flipping forward when trying to go over a bump. This happened a few times with my daughter. The first time, I happened to be right next to her and I caught her before she flipped forward. The second time, she fell but it was very minor. The third time, she hit a bump on an uneven sidewalk and she fell forward, a full on face plant onto the sidewalk. Her lip was bleeding and her chin scraped up a little bit. She was wearing a helmet, which protruded enough to protect the rest of her face. I am contemplating a helmet with a chin guard now (though that wouldn't have prevent her bloody lip, which I think was a result of her biting it). So PLEASE ensure your kid wears a HELMET when riding this. UPDATES: - The handlebar height locking mechanism can be tightened with the included allen key. After tightening it slightly, the latch clamps down firmly and the handlebar no longer creeps down. - My daughter has not flipped over since I wrote this review. I think she was leaning forward onto the handlebars too much. - Upgrading the review to 5 stars.
