Your stronghold is a very important source of power for your city. Always upgrade it whenever you can. Join an alliance. Make sure you always join an alliance that is active in the game and is very good. You will level up faster. When in an alliance, alliance members can help you speed up your builds and researches, but they cannot help you march. Level up your Barracks! Your Barracks is where you train your troops. It is always important to have troops. Example: I scouted someone and they had no troops, but they had TONS of resources. I attacked him the first time and I got 4 million of everything! Level up your hospitals. Leveling up your hospitals will level up the amount of troops you can heal. And that is it for me, cause Athena will explain everything else to you.
