I bought this as a storm shelter for my four cats, all adult and ranging from 10 - 16 pounds, so they're not small cats. I fitted it out with beds and dangling toys and a corner litter box with the idea of making it something they thought of as a fun hangout instead of confinement. Apparently I succeeded, because they love it and often sleep and play in there. The cage is roomy enough for the four cats, including the 16-pounder who has a "don't-touch-me" zone. Generally this requires that at least one of the cats be on a shelf instead of the floor, but it also helped to put in some beds and baskets they could be either inside or atop. The construction is sturdy, the doors latch in a way that even my bizarrely dexterous and intelligent cats can't open, and the double doors open widely enough to get large-ish items such as bed and litter boxes inside. I bought the cushions sold by Midwest and a softer, sturdier hammock to make cushy places to hang out. That's a 14-pound Maine coon in the photo for scale. I told him to smile for the camera, and he did.
