Added just the right mount of support & cushy-ness to my stiff mattress
My wife likes no topper at all, and i gave up trying to find something that works for the both of us, so i just decided to find what i like and cut it in half. I wanted something that would sort of fill in the blanks of my body instead of create a whole other mattress on top of my mattress. I looked around for a 1", but those are for some reason scarce. i'm 5'9" 180lbs, they say the bigger you are, the thicker you should get. i used to use a 2" flat topper which i liked, though sometimes the flat surface felt a bit stiff in the cold months before i warmed it up. I reasoned that a 2" egg crate topper would give me some of that lovely memory foam sinking feeling, while not taking away all the firmness of my mattress. What i liked: -Egg crate style feels more natural than a flat foam, -Ventilation holes. Can't tell by the photo, but there ARE holes, i have no idea if they actually do anything, but nice touch. -Good density, doesn't feel flimsy like lower density ones, probably a little over 3 pounds. -Well made. sounds odd, but there are some pretty shoddy, non-uniform foam toppers out there. -Reasonable initial smell. They all smell at the start, this one wasn't bad, and after a day it was barely noticable. So how did i make use of this when my wife doesn't like it? We have a queen mattress, so i bought the queen size, and took a sharrp knife and cut it down the middle, but rather than make a 90 degree cut, i cut it on an angle so it's like a little ramp. wasn't the straightest cut in the world but the idea worked and it isn't as awkward as you might think having half the bed with foam and the other half without. We're snugglers and this method hasn't affected our snugglin' time. UPDATE: The wife asked me to put the other half back in! It's been a few months now since she decided to give it a try and she's never looked back. Good thing i kept the other half! I can also say that despite being a side sleeper, i haven't experienced back pain from sleeping in quite some time
