Best Catbox I Have Ever Owned
I have 3 adult cats. I purchased a Littermaid hoping to aid in the chore of keeping their toilet clean. The Littermaid was a complete waste of my $115. Its rake was constantly getting clogged or stuck.
I was considering the VERY EXPENSIVE Litter-Robot. In reading pet blogs and miscellaneous reviews trying to decide whether to cough up the cash, I came across a couple of recommendations for the Omega Paw Litterbox. It sounded like both the Omega and Robot worked on a similar roll-over principal, with the Robot being automated and the Omega being manual. I decided I would spend approximately $35 for the Omega and try it out before shelling out $300 for the Litter-Robot. I have been so happy with the Omega that I have decided not to buy the Robot at this time.
As for tips for Omega Paw users:
1. It has been my experience that the process works best and wastes almost no litter if I have the litter filled to the proper level (about 3" in the box), and if I roll the box over **slowly**. If I roll it too fast, some clumps escape the grid and I also find more wasted clean litter in the drawer.
In addition I followed other reviewers' advice:
2. Mark the fill line inside the box with a marker so I can be sure I am keeping the box adequately filled.
3. Roll the box S L O W L Y to minimize wasted litter
4. Give the bottom of the box a good whack or two when it is inverted to release any clumps sticking to the bottom of the box.
5. Use duct tape or wide masking tape to seal the edge where the top and bottom meet. I would frequently accidentally release the latches when tilting the box. The tape prevents that problem and also prevents small litter particles from escaping.
UPDATE
It is November 2011 and my Omega Paw is still working great.
UPDATE 2
It's now July 24, 2013. Omega Paw is still in service, and I am still holding off on the Litter Robot.
