A lot more comfortable than the disposable menstrual discs!
First of all, I would consider this a menstrual "disc" instead of a menstrual "cup" since they're shaped, folded and positioned differently.
There have been a couple of other brands similar to this disc but are disposable and I would rather not have the added waste, although I've tried both (of the disposable brands). This cup is reusable and is said to last for up to two years.
The Ziggy Cup feels like the same velvety silicone that they used for their original Lily Cup and Lily Cup Compact. The texture is super soft and smooth. The thin collection membrane has a honeycomb pattern on it. It stretches but does not fill up and expand like a balloon. So if you thought that's what was going happen, it doesn't :P
The rim is a LOT nicer to deal with than the rigid rims of the disposable brands. You can pinch/fold and manipulate this one much easier and with a lot less pressure if you have any type of problems with gripping items (arthritis and such). Although the rim is softer than the other brands, it also springs back open better and returns to its original shape when released. Since this rim is softer, it's less likely to be felt, as well.
The rim has two dips in it and I'm not positive about them, but they seem to help the cup be placed correctly and more comfortably as they may form better to your body.
The storage case feels like the same soft silicone. Pretty handy and unique compared to the normal cotton pouches you usually get with menstrual cups.
I did start my period right before I received the Ziggy Cup and have been wearing it (after I did the video).
I had a much easier time inserting this cup than the disposables. The rim didn't give me any problems placing the cup into my vaginal fornix and tucked above/behind my pubic bone. With the disposables, I always felt like the cup was too large and I had troubles tucking it behind my pubic bone without it feeling like it was going to slip out of place.
I've been coughing a lot lately with spring approaching and so far this one has NOT popped out of place and caused crime scene :( Something that happened often if I sneezed, coughed, laughed, blew my nose...etc. with the other discs.
My period is not heavy this month (at least not since I've been wearing Ziggy), so I'm not sure how my experience will be when it is.
I will update if/when it's heavy next. I'll also update if/when I get a chance to use it while I have sexual encounters :P (penetrative penis/vagina)
If you're worried about the initial cost of this cup, don't forget that it is reusable and you will only need to buy this cup once for at least two years.
So far....5 stars
