Like the title says: It's perfect for washing rice. Though, if washing smaller grains or seeds (such as Quinoa), expect a minimal amount to escape through the side drain (if you use it). Not removing a star for that as the product is advertised as a rice washer and it performs that duty perfectly. The side drain is relatively high from the bottom of the bowl so as long as you don't tip the bowl in the direction of that drain, then no quinoa will escape and the water will continue to slowly seep out of the bottom drain. Otherwise, if you want a quick wash, just fashion your hand (or a paper towel, etc.) in front of the side drain to allow water seepage and seize any escaping quinoa.
