Exactly what I wanted
I just got this, and finished installing it in about 15 minutes. 10 minutes of that was attempting to decipher the instructions before I decided to fly by the seat of my pants and go by trial and error. (The instructions are in Dutch, I think). Everyone says it's portable, which I'm confused as how it is - it screws to the rack, so I don't see how it is portable. I'm okay with that as I carry bags of things and they actually make liners you can put in your basket; but if you're looking for a basket that lifts off this is not the one. To install: screw, washer, basket in between, plastic separator to prevent warping, into the metal bracket (or the provided washer/nut/screw cap). The hardware it comes with is designed to prevent scratches and rust.
This basket is great. It's neither too wide nor too deep, but I was still suprised by how large it is. I'm very happy with it. The moutnting bars are a rubbery coated metal so they won't scratch whatever they are mounted to. I mounted them to my Shwinn errand bike, which actually has a spring loaded thing on the rear rack, and it handled the extra bit of depth fine.
Some people say you need "clearance" under your seat for this basket. I disagree; my seat is as low as it can go and has to stay that way so I simply mounted my basket a little further back. It's just as sturdy and looks just fine. I gave myself about 1/4" clearance since my seat is light colored to prevent any color transfer in case of rubbing.
The biggest con is that it does make it essentially impossible to dismount your bike by throwing your leg over the rear. I about toppled over my bike when I tried to get off and it took me a second to realize that was the reason why.
