Works great, unless you drop it
We have had 3 of these. When they are working, they work great for sucking up the sand and smaller particles from the pool floor. The first one we had for about 2 years and it worked great, then it got dropped from about 18" on to the lawn, and that made it quit working. We got a new one next year to replace it, and then a new one this year because somehow they keep getting dropped. I know that it is our fault that we keep dropping these, but I wish they were made sturdier so that a drop of 18" on to a soft lawn wouldn't make them quit working.
A few tips I have learned...
1) Don't drop it
2) Keep it running until you lift it out of the pool and over the side to empty it, if you turn it off while still in the water, the dirt floats back out
3) Turn it on in the water and let it fill up with water (wait for the bubbles to stop coming out of it) before you put it on the pool floor to start sweeping or it will blow the dirt from the pool floor up into the water instead of sucking it up.
4) Make a current in your pool (walk in one direction around the inside the perimeter of the pool to get the water all flowing in a circle), once the current is pretty strong, get out and let the water settle. This funnels all of the dirt to the center of the pool floor. Then all you have to do is sweep up the center of the floor and not the entire pool floor.
5) Put a knee high nylon stocking over the collection bag to collect all the sand and small particles.
6) Once again, don't drop it!
